Newsletter – April 29, 2026

I received responses from the Dicastery regarding our appeals.  Here is a summary:

1) Assessment - the Dicastery revoked the assessment and orders the funds be returned.  I have forwarded the decree as received to SOBC/St. Joseph Foundation for their review and comment.  I will likely be sending the Bishop and Father David (as Pastor) a letter requesting our $211,800 be returned immediately.

  • I will be sending a letter to the Bishop and Father David (as our Pastor) requesting the immediate return of our money, $211,800 based on the DECREE issued by the Dicastery

2) Merger - The Dicastery affirmed the decree from the Bishop.  This is not what we wanted to hear, but it also isn't a surprise.  We had already begun the process of appealing to the next step, the Apostolic Signatura.  I forwarded the decree as received today to SOBC/St. Joseph Foundation and requested their input and continued guidance.  This is not over and is currently the situation for many other churches in the Diocese.

  • I will be sending a follow up to the Apostolic Signatura with our response to the DECREE the Dicastery issued, calling out the outdated and inaccurate data that is listed.  The Save Our Buffalo Churches and St. Joseph Foundation believe we have a very strong case.  This next step, as was mentioned many times earlier, will have a charge associated once the Apostolic Signatura accepts our appeal for review.  The cost will be approximately $3000 and will be paid using CRCF funds.  We will request the same Curial Advocate (lawyer) that is being used by Our Lady of Peace in Salamanca.  Tom Brady, who is Procurator there has provided great feedback in this regard.  The Apostolic Signatura process is expected to many more months, but there is no definitive timeframe here.

Please continue to pray for Father David and Father John and our appeal.

Thanks,

Dan
